White label platforms compared

The idea of white labeling a network is to make the platform provider as invisible as possible to the social network's users and to brand the network with the builder's identity or intent.

While definitions of "social networking" may vary, social networks are primarily defined by member profiles and some sort of user generated content.

There are roughly three types of companies that have emerged in the space of white label social networking.

The first provides hosted, do-it-yourself solutions with which customers can literally click their way to a brand new social network. Companies of this type interact minimally with their customers and rather focus on providing the network-building tools that they demand.

We analyze nine of these companies: Ning, Crowdvine, PhpFox, SocialGO, World Dating Partners and ONEsite all of which provide free baseline services. We reviewed them individually below.

1. Ning is the leading online platform for the world's organizers, activists and influencers to create social experiences that inspire action. Ning offers an easy-to-use service that enables people to create custom branded social networks.

2. ONEsite is a Customized white-label social networking partnership solutions for large media, entertainment, and community brands.

3. PhpFox , is a social networking script that today powers thousands of communities that range from all sort of niche's and business models.

PhpFox includes by default modules such as forums, photo, blogs, user profile, quizzes, groups, video, music, polls, events, marketplace/classified and an admin panel where the site owner/administrator can manage their phpFox site. If the site owners are interested in additional features there is an area called "Customize" for them to get add-ons made by third party developers.

5. Crowdvine

CrowdVine provides social networks for conferences and other professional communities.

Conference attendees are looking for a tool to help them make contacts at the event. CrowdVine for Conferences is a hosted social network package that's tailored specifically for conferences.

Rather than being yet another place to manage your friends, it helps you organize a want-to-meet list, see which sessions your friends are going to, and when the conference is over, export your new contacts to your permanent social network (LinkedIn, Facebook, email).

6. Joomla! is used all over the world to power everything from simple, personal homepages to complex corporate web applications.

7. World dating Partners "We build your brand... not ours. Earn the highest income possible with your own branded or white label site. A Free solution to fit your ideas, plans and financial expectations"

8. SocialGo - no software, hosting or coding required, free and quick setup

I'll recommend platforms that will have an open architecture, so it can extend and connect to other social networks.

No one wants to have multiple IDs, so anything that can provide a solution for long term makes sense. A system that can scale as well as be open to connect to other systems will be key.

Out of the services that we review below, we found that Ning provides the best platform for setting up good-looking, sophisticated social networks with minimal effort.

KickApps provides the best platform for integrating social networking components into existing websites.

CrowdVine is viable options for organizations that are looking for simple social networks to improve personalized communication online. ,

Groupsite is most suitable for existing groups that want to collaborate online.

And GoingOn provides a promising hybrid solution with capabilities shared by both Ning and Groupsite.

If your budget does not allow you to buy a custom-built social networking solution, then you may want to consider purchasing a cheaper social network script. As with any software program, however, there are a few things you should be aware of when buying a social networking script or software solution, especially when these are sold for a one-time only fee:

The social networking script may not be able to deliver certain functionalities as promised because of bugs, poor software development, or the company's own lack of financial and development resources,

The social networking script provider may go out of business at some point leaving their customers with an unsupported script and problems servicing users that cannot be easily rectified.

After much time spent analyzing and comparing various social networking scripts and software solutions, user forums, etc ... and, taking the important points about buying software mentioned above into account, the solution we found to be best suited for budget conscious small business owners is the social networking software developed by PHPFOX
